Topic: The Family Home (05/29/08)
In 1963, newly built houses were being developed in western Bloomington, Minnesota. One of those homes was the house of my parents, who had just married. I came along in September of 1964. I would go on to live 17 years in that house. Most of those years I would be an only child.

There were so many memorable things about that house. One fond memory I had was the tree that I sat in, that reminded me of a helicopter.

One day when my dad was mowing the lawn five rabbits appeared at the base of a tree.

I will never forget the jungle gym, which looked like a boat that my dad built for me to play on.

There were also sad times at this house. One day when I got done mowing the lawn, my mom was pulling out of the driveway. That was the last time I saw her alive. She committed suicide when I was 14. My dad remarried a short time later, and I gained a stepbrother and two stepsisters.

"Wait until they get their light bill," our neighbors said. There was new life at this house in west Bloomington.

Another day I was mowing the lawn, and complaining about the twigs. "I wished that the twigs were gone," I said. I didn't like the sound of the twigs going through the lawn mower. I should never wished that, because that night we had a bad storm and we lost two trees, one tree in back and one in front. If you would of looked at my dad's car from the back you would of thought a tree hit my dad's car. The good thing was that it only broke his antenna.

It was sad the day when my parents moved out of that house. Long live 4801 West 111th street; long live the memories of a life gone by.

So sad about the trees, but I did like this short and bittersweet piece. ^_^

Your title caught my eye. I like the nostalgic memories of your childhood home. Maybe a few more descriptions would flesh out your article a bit more.
