When I was six years old
And with mom I then did stay
Her love to have and hold
Many times dad let me down
In many different ways
Still he had a gentle side
And some would sing his praise
In my heart for many years
My mind was torn apart
For inside I wanted dad
To mend my broken heart
As a child I tried my best
To meet my dad half way
It seems as I got older
My best just slipped away
I did not go to visit
I would not even call
For mom had got remarried
Unto my Daddy Paul
Daddy Paul became to me
The dad I never knew
Even walked me down the aisle
The day I said I do
Mom said I had to offer
This honor first to dad
He said he could not do it
Which did not make sad
I thank God for Daddy Paul
I’m glad mom married him
He filled a spot so empty
I think he’s such a gem
