Cara breathed in deeply, tension made her muscles tighten. She could feel the butterflies in her stomach start their nervous flutter.
She knew what she had to do, she just wasn’t sure if you could. So many people had faith in her, she wasn’t sure if their faith was well-placed. She had to fight her own self-doubt.
Everything seemed to be where it should be. Scanning the area she felt the cool wind brushing her hair across her face. She pushed her hair back and put a band around it. It didn’t really matter what she looked like. The results were what mattered.
She could hear the murmur of people and knew some would be talking about her. She couldn’t hear what they were saying but she hoped it was good. Cara could you all the positive thoughts she could get.
Cara prayed, imploring God to let her muscles respond as they should. Asking that all her years of hard work would come to fruition. Only God could get her through this.
A horn told her it was almost time. All her preparation was over, it was judgment time.
She looked at all the people she admired, some she had even worked with. They all took their places. Cara took her place and she felt the ground beneath her. Little else but the thought of the end went through her mind.
Bang and before Cara knew it everything was over. All she could hear was the cheering crowd, all shouting her name. She saw her coach running to her with his arms open wide. “You did it! I told you why not try this while you had time?”
Cara smiled, she was medallist. She came first in the sprint. So many things had happened in her life. At least she had done it while her father had still been around.
She turned back to her dad, who was also her coach and said, “Thank you and thank God. He is the one whose strength got me through it.” Cara was glad she had done it now, who knew if next year she would have time or be able to.

I was a bit disappointed, though...seven paragraphs of build-up, and it was over in a sentence, and I didn't even get a description of the race. You had some leftover words; it would've been great to experience the race, too.
The resolution was good, too...you're a good writer.
