Eddy was the first to arrive, and he was full of stories of his enchanting worship concertos he had conducted for kids. As a worship leader, Eddy and his wife Becky do a lot of ministry among kids. Eddy sat down with his mother Marceline narrating all the wonderful participation of teenage kids from various schools. His brother Phil and his wife Jane joined the conversation as they all sat eating the rich plum cake Marceline had made.
The young couple was excited about the Christmas concerts they had successfully conducted. “Mom, you should have seen the kids jumping and dancing. They were all so excited singing praises to God. My team and I covered almost four to five places in the city. Phil you should have been there to see it. You don’t make time to attend at least one such concert during Christmas.”
“You know my schedules Ed…” Phil cut in.
“Yap, you and your journalism” Eddy replied.
Marceline scolded, “Now Ed, don’t say such things about Phil. You never bothered to know what he does apart from his career.”
Eddy replied with a grin “I am sure he is behind stories which can be used for his newspaper…”
There was an awkward silence in the room for a moment. The thud at the door turned everybody’s attention to the pile of postal covers that arrived. Jane got up to get some hot coffee and cookies. Eddy casually got up and picked up the bunch of postal covers. He was surprised to see so many Christmas cards from some of their old family friends and neighbors when Phil and Eddy were kids.
Eddy out of curiosity opened the card from Ronald, their basketball coach during high school. There was letter along with the card. Eddy opened to read the letter…
“Dear Phil,
You don’t know how much it means to me, of you visiting me often since the time I took ill. Though I was taken good care in the home, your visits amidst your daily schedules added a lot more comfort to my burdened heart. Not only was I comforted, but also some of my inmates here felt the same.
Your love, care and concern for ailing folks like us is a blessing from heaven.
We love you and pray that God Bless you richly in everything you do.
Merry Christmas.
Love Ronald.”
Eddy’s eyes were filled with tears as he closed the letter. “I’m sorry, Phil, I had no idea...” Eddy struggled for words.
He hugged Phil as he handed the note over to him.
