The perfect gift

With the Christmas season quickly approaching, there is one thing on most people’s minds, gifts!! The perfect gift, what could it be?

What are the latest electronic gadgets? What will I buy for Aunt Suzie? What new toy will little Tommy want?

For just a moment, let’s stop and turn our focus onto another kind of gift, a spiritual gift. Can you think of a spiritual gift you have?

We all have at least one. God has blessed us each with a gift, some way of honoring him with our lives. Maybe you have a great deal of compassion for others and are always helping someone in need, like holding the door open for the lady whose arms are loaded up with packages. Maybe God has blessed you with a beautiful voice, and you like to sing during the worship service. Or maybe you’re artistically creative and can help with drawing brochures or designing crafts for the children. Do you like teaching Sunday school or bible studies, where you can help others to understand God’s Word?

Each of these gifts is special. They are hand picked by our Father himself. We are to use these to serve him and bring glory to his name.


But there is one very special gift that all born-again believers have in common. This is the most important and precious gift of all, our Salvation, through Jesus Christ, what greater, more perfect gift than this could we receive? I believe there is no greater gift.

But with this gift comes responsibility. We, as Christians should all strive to follow what Jesus said is the greatest commandment, “To Love the Lord Your God with all your heart and soul, body and mind”. We should also always pray "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." In doing these two things we will learn that worshiping and praising God is one of the most important things a Christian does. The more we praise God, the more we feel his presence, and the closer we grow to him in our relationship. This, I believe is another part of his perfect gift.

As our relationship grows, the people around us will see the difference and want to know why we are different.. We need to shine the light of Jesus into every dark place of this world so that others will be drawn in by his light. Then they too, will have the opportunity to receive God’s perfect gift of salvation and share his love with others they come in contact with.

So as we go back into the busy world preoccupied with buying the perfect gift let’s make it point to let them know about God’s perfect gift, the gift of salvation. As we share with others, it will become their greatest gift of all.

Good tie-in with the Christmas season.

This was a lovely devotional--perhaps only needing something fresh and original to make it stand out among many similar devotionals.

This would make a good bulletin insert this month.
