I have to wonder if the Body of Christ in this day we live in really understands the magnitude of the importance of this subject. Do we even really understand what the Scripture is really saying when it refers to encouragement among believers? To be totally honest, I myself, feel as if I am just beginning to get a real revelation of how important this subject really is.
When we think of encouragement we think of speaking an encouraging word to someone we happen to cross paths with who may be going through a difficult time and needs a lift, and certainly that is a part of encouragement among believers. But when the Bible speaks on this subject it is speaking of something much deeper than simply happening to come across someone’s path on occasion and speaking an encouraging word to them.
Hebrews 3:13 speaks of encouraging one another every day. We are a body, joined together by His Spirit and we need each other more than a few days a week when it’s time for church service. So many people go to church but never really get to know anyone. We join together in one building but never really get connected with people through relationships by which we can be encouraged by one another daily. Hebrews 10:24, 25 (Amplified) (24) And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities, (25) Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching. This speaks of relationships, connecting with people.
The enemy would like to keep us alone and not joined closely with the rest of the flock. He goes for the ones who are easy prey. He roams around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Someone who is strayed away from the rest of the flock is easy prey. We are much stronger when we are connected with other believers through personal relationships. One can put a thousand to flight, but two can put ten thousand to flight.
We must recognize our need for others and also remember that others need what we have to give. If we join together with others believers on a daily basis it helps keep our faith stirred up. When we are feeling weak in holding on to the promises of God, fellowshipping with another believer who can help encourage and lift you up, just may give you the strength you needed for that day to hold fast to your confession of faith. We need each other more than we realize. Encouraging one another daily needs to become a way of life for us. Not only will be stronger, but we will know the joy of being connected through relationship with others of like faith.
