Our hearts can be desperately wicked and sometimes we just manipulate people and situations for our personal gain.
Self-examination has to be a continuous practice if we are to improve the quality and effectiveness of our lives. We need to keep asking ourselves, why? Why am I attending or not attending this church? Why am I doing this job? Why am I writing early in the morning when I could be sleeping?
We should also observe our conversation and the company that we keep. There is a saying "Show me your company and I'll tell you who you are." We are drawn to people of like minds for they reinforce our beliefs. We are comfortable around them. We should therefore weigh their influence on us and listen to our conversations for "from the depths of the heart, the mouth speaketh."
Our intentions determine our actions and our actions speak much louder than our words.
In order to evaluate our intentions and live a Christian life, we need to find out how Christ lived. He prayed often. He sought His Father's blessings/advice before He did anything. He did what He was assigned to do. He pleased His Father. He did not "do his own thing."
Jesus always answered questions from a biblical viewpoint. He knew the word of God. He knew that if He could pray, know the word and live right; then He could defeat the devil. He separated himself towards consecration. He lived a holy life.
Although it is said that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions;" let our intentions be to live Holy and use God's word to measure our success or failure to do so.
As we live today, I encourage you to meditate on God's word and examine your intentions. If there is need for change, I pray that God gives you the strength to change your mind and do what is right in the sight of God!
