In Acts 2, after a stormy and fiery start, the disciples met devout men from Judea, Samaria and the ends of the -- then known -- world.
The book of Acts tells us clearly how, as Jesus had predicted, the gospel was preached: from city to city, from land to land; on foot or by sea.
The circle of lands being reached through the ministry of Paul and Barnabas and others had grown rapidly.
It has not stopped, and the church is still marching on - or should I say: flying on. We live in a day and age that the gospel message has gone forth via the air, by missionaries flying to all the ends of the earth; many radio- and T.V. stations are beaming the message via the satellites even into countries which are closed to the traditional missionary workers. The term “cyberspace” is a household word nowadays, and millions of believers now can reach other people around the world, via the internet.
I grew up with an organization called “Open Doors”, which brings Bibles into many closed countries. My wife and I had the privilege to make a few trips ourselves and we have many friends who have done so too -- even into China.
Jesus said that we had to go into the whole world and preach the gospel, but that does not stop Him to work as well via dreams and visions. I have heard a number of stories how, especially in the Arabic speaking world, men and women come to know Him through a dream or vision. One DVD with three authentic stories has been copied a million times and finds its way into many Moslem countries.
Recently, a whole new aspect of spreading the Word is catching on rapidly.
A friend of mine works for an organization which specializes in bringing the Word into Arabic speaking countries. They still use the paper and ink method so to speak, but copying the whole Bible on a CD is a matter of minutes and very easy to take along -- especially in the form of a CD-business card. A card can hold 4 Bibles in different languages including Bible Studies and many other links. The orders for it are coming in by the hundreds. This year alone he has already produced 12000 CD’s. I met him the other day in Amsterdam, Holland, and he had handfuls of these cards. The one he gave me contains three whole Bibles in Dutch, English and French.
Yes, the Word is going around the world by word of mouth, the very best thing, but also via cyberspace until He comes. Amen.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
