Dust swirled around her feet as Elizabeth ran across the school yard, racing her friends.
“I won!” she said as she reached the fence at the finish line. Her friends ran up behind her; their smiles and laughter only brightened the day more. The sky was bright and the sun turned every face pink with warmth and each blade of grass stretched up to the sky.
“Who said ‘I won’ ?” the school bully, Shane, said. Sand crunched under his feet and a smirk spread across his face as he walked toward Elizabeth. Shane’s friends walked close behind him. “Because nobody in this school wins except for me! Isn’t that right guys?”
“Yeah!” Shane’s friends shouted together behind him.
“I did.” Elizabeth said quietly, not wanting to get in trouble with the school bully.
“You did huh? Well now you are going to pay. What should she do boys?” Elizabeth shuddered at the sound of Shane’s proud tone.
“She should be our servant for as long as we want. She could do our homework for us, and clean our rooms and do our chores.” said Shane’s “second in command” Andrew.
“Dude, you have no right to tell us what to do.” Elizabeth’s best friend Rachel said as she stuck her face in Shane’s. “You think you are soooo hot, but, I hate to break this to you, you‘re not! You aren’t the only person in this world! Elizabeth doesn’t have to do any thing you say. In fact she won’t. I’ll make sure she doesn’t.”
Shane’s face twisted in fury. “Did you say what I thought you said!?”
“Yes.” said Rachel, she ran her fingers through her hair with an air of importance.
“Nobody defies me!” Shane screamed, throwing his hands in the air.
“Yeah, well we did! Now go away! Shoo! Leave us alone! More people can win then just you so leave!” Rachel yelled, sticking her face into his.
Elizabeth and her friends joined in, and started to tell them to leave.
“Fine! Know this isn’t the end! We will come back and next time I will win!” Shane said as he stomped away. A loud bell rang, signaling the end of recess, and the girls walked back into the building with the thought of victory hanging in their heads.
Pastor Paul stood up. “So this story isn’t about anything big or of importance. I thought I would find something that we probably all went through and something that is easy to understand.
“Elizabeth couldn’t defeat that “Satan” by herself, but because she was with friends she had the strength to get rid of him for good. Strength comes in numbers. If there is only one of you, I guarantee, you will have difficulties defeating Satan when he comes.
“The end of the story when Shane walks away threatening to come back is actually what will happen to you to. Satan will always come back and try again so you must always be on your guard. What you will need to remember most is what I already said, strength comes in numbers. So get you friends closer to you so you will be prepared when he does come back, and you also need to remember that God will also be there to help when you need Him.”

It seems to me that the story the youth pastor told was kind of young for a teen audience. A similar story about a teen standing up to bullies might have been more effective.
The object lesson was certainly valid, and a valuable one for teens. Thanks!
