Topic: Fearful (08/23/07)
News headlines--it’s bad, very bad. Surely, you’ve heard.

What is it? you ask.

Well, it’s Global Warming. Global Warming, that’s the BIGGIE. You must have seen the screaming headlines (even though not so terribly long ago scientists were warning of a coming new Ice Age). Then, there are real disasters like terrorists, earthquakes, bridges collapsing, and the list can go on. They strike fear in our hearts.

In other news hypes we face a question that’s core to our survival: To eat, or not to eat. Although not categorized with disasters, such a list may contain eggs, coffee, chocolate, not enough vitamins, excessive amounts of vitamins, food supplements and much more. Some of these we’ve been told at one time are good for us, then later told they are bad for us. Feel a knot of fear in the stomach yet? This fits one dictionary definition of such fear: expecting harm.

Life does come with a degree of uncertainty, risk or fear. A common denominator with any of these, it seems, is facing the end--end of life, whether it’s the end of life as we know it, or our lives, or even all life on earth. Human nature wants to avoid the end at any cost.

God tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, as referenced in Psalm 139:14 (KJV), but fearful in this context is opposite of the earlier definition. If we grasp the truth that God fearfully made us, we see that He took great care, with fine detail. He wonderfully made us and we are, indeed, a marvel. Who can fathom the magnitude of God’s creation, of man and the world? It is truly fearful and wonderful.

The greatest fear extinguisher of all is with the issue of the end. God Himself provided the answer to the end of this temporal life, and world for that matter. Have you heard? He offers life eternal, with Him. Bless the Lord! What do we really have to be fearful of?

Oh, I liked this. I'm convinced that if we stayed away from every food that's ever been called bad for any reason, we would literally have NO foods left. On the other hand, if we ate every food that's been called good at any time for any reason, we could eat anything. Go figure. I also hadn't thought about the meaning or use of "fearful" in that verse. Great job.
