I blinked and realized that the Universe of Computer Search Engine had failed.
Such a simple word. Everyone knows what it means, yet it means exactly the same to no one.
The computer search engine offered over 89 million choices with the word 'mother' as the only clue.
The first offering had something to do with twenty dollars worth of flowers.
But what if your mother would far rather have bulbs or live plants that she could place in the yard or house than cut flowers? What if?
Her name was not Shirley, but surely we could do better than this! Maybe the computer would be more understanding of the word 'mom'? After all, mother is somewhat of a title. Some women like it. Some appreciate the shorter word since it sounds less like a title and more like a name. "Hey sonny, who is that woman?" "That's my Mom."
Something like that. No such luck. The best the computer could come up with was Milliom Mom March, 'groovy mom', and Mothers Day cards at the top of its list.
This particular mom had a name like the month we were in, and deserved better than this. Motherhood brought topics of maternity; mothering was joined to words like natural and family. This just would not do. Having no luck from the mechanical source, a cup of coffee was brought into play, and the computer strictly ignored.
Somthing about sitting in the kitchen in relaxation with a warm cup of coffee in his hands puzzling on a problem stirred his own memory banks. Warmth, relaxation, quiet times, solving puzzles of all varieties, teaching times.
One other picture appeared beside the rest. Work resumed on the one of a kind Mothers Day letter- for a one of a kind mother. Spending time with her now, along with the others of the family. Realizing that she knew that her children had all been adults for quite awhile but somewhere inside her you all remained children. No, Mother is not a day. Mother is a lifetime.
