Now and again, she wiped the stream of tears that was welling-up in here eyes because of her persistent staring at the sun. Nothing good seemed likely to emerge out of the jumble of her thoughts. Her medical condition kept threatening her existence.
She’d suffered acute bleeding for over twelve years. Cure seem washed out of existence. Her face shriveled from the pangs of torture, which the sickness gave her and her life, dented from the blows.
Being hypocritical, one prophet prescribed that she needs to be bathed nude in river. The status quo didn’t assume to abate after all. She lost her livestock to hungry prophets and her personality to the hurdles of fate.
Esther sold all her possessions in exchange for healing. Only one tattered and repugnant-looking wrapper was hanging on her loosely bolted and thin waist. It had traces of congealed blood drawn on it. Stunned by the state of affairs, everyone began to disappear to God-knows-where. Her parent and husband nonetheless.
Disappointed with life, she will lie on her bed and wail a lament, “God, what kind of condition is this? Why did you create me at all, and why should my parents have to give birth to me?” Her 13-year old daughter would sit beside her pitiable mother. She knew not why her mother was grieved; all she cared for was to restore even a piece of joy to her.
“Mum,” called Jane who had come very close to her; her attention seemed likely to be on odyssey. “Mum” Jane called yet again.
“Yes my daughter” she replied. Her countenance fell once more.
“But… why are you bawling at me with that pitch? Didn’t your common sense tell you I was thinking about my life?” She panted as she became furious almost abruptly.
“I’m sorry mum, I was disturbed you weren’t yourself.” she replied. Her voice shivered. She trembled at her mother’s roar. She knew mum was never happy any time she wears that devilish disposition, although she couldn’t help it.
“Oho! You are disturbed I’m not myself, now tell me, of whom am I?”
“You are still yourself.” She stammered in her startled state, fear grieved her superego.
“But mum…”
“Don’t “buts” me I say. Why are you bothered?” mum interrupted.
“I just felt the way you sat looks awkward.” She tried to justify her claims.
“Am I sitting with my legs in the air, or is there no support beneath my butts such that I’m floating on the air?” mum queried harder.
“I’m sorry mum; you are taking it too far? You sound fussy! I was about to tell you what the pastor said; that the miracle-wonder working man will be coming to town for a crusade.”
“Je… Jesus?” she stuttered, almost nervous. “Did he mean Jesus Christ?” she muttered, trying to ascertain. She had heard of this guru for long. Her forget-me-not eyes brightened.
“Yes, he said on Friday,” Jane confirmed.
“Ahem! Okay, you can now go in,” she told her “I will join you soon,” with furtive glances. Blood gushed out like an ocean once more.
That fateful day, a gigantic crowd hauling around the August visitor, whoever got His attention got his wishes met. At the rear of the crowd, Esther was jostling her way into the center of the crowd.
“If only I could touch the tip of his shirt, I’m sure I will be healed.” She encouraged her fragile self, “This might be my lucky day.” She added.
In the mist were different persons heading for the rare gem. Esther kept pushing her way in. while she pressed forward, unfriendly and sinister competitors pushed her backwards, and at each instance, she started from the start.
Being hopeful she pushed on once more, while no one expected she match forward, from that place she grabbed the Master’s cloth. At that minute, the pool of blood dried up in her.
“I’m healed.” She screamed in total jollification.
Soon, attentions became transfixed on her. They knew her before as “the woman with the issue of blood” and never thought she would be healed. Nevertheless, she was happy because her miracle came.
