Each day was filled with a compact timetable. Plans had to be penned, contacts had to be bought and deals had to be sealed. The dream of success rested upon a fulfilled timetable. When the day was done and night had returned, Lost would find himself in sociable crowd. Conversation was full of light hearted boosting, crude jokes and lustful looks. The fuel for such a conversation is the best alcohol that money can buy. The sociable crowd would indirectly earn themselves expensive livers.
After Lost emptied his pockets for his ‘friends’ and puffed himself up enough to burst, he would swagger his way to a dark apartment. No luxury had been spared but the darkness was still there. The dreaded electricity bill was costly every time it dropped in. Even when all the lights were on, Lost could sense the darkness hiding behind the curtains.
Once in bed, he would try to relax and shut out the darkness. However, the darkness hid behind his eyelids. It enveloped him in turmoil. His mind rolled over like the restless sea. The rampant sea rolled down into the deep pulling up the dirty memories and the uncertain future. When sleep finally came, he found himself in his miserable mind. The sea tossed and turned him round and round. The murky waters were opaque.
Suddenly, a net engulfed him with unnumbered amounts of fish. Their scales coated him in slime. As the net swayed its way to the surface, Lost felt nauseous. With a heavy thud, the net rested upon a fishing boat. It was monstrously big and made of glistening gold.
A terrific being was separating the fish. There were two destinations. Lost would end up in the belly of the ship or the belly of a searing furnace. In front of the being was a large basket of precious pearls. All of a sudden, Lost was in the hands of the being. Lost no longer had legs and arms but fins and scales. His mouth was forced open but nothing was found there. At that, he was cast into the oppressive flames.
Lost woke up in terror. His nightmares were getting worse by the day. They were so real. A stiff drink steadied his nerves and he set out for yet another busy day. It entailed a menu of appointments, meetings and most importantly, pressure. As Lost ate his way through his menu, a messenger stopped him in his tracks. He asked Lost a question.
Messenger – would you like peace? Look for the Pearl with all your heart and you will find it. It will give you peace. The Lord Jesus Christ provides the only way to the pearl.
Lost – How do I find the Lord Jesus Christ?
Messenger – If you believe in Him, you will find Him.
The messenger left Lost and the day carried on. That night his mind travelled back to the messenger. His heart was pricked. The whirlpool in his mind took him to a place of suffering. A cross held a man impaired by sin. An invisible weight was upon his shoulders. Darkness engulfed the place.
Bystander – why are you here?
Lost – I am looking for the Lord Jesus.
Bystander – He has taken your place on the cross. The sin of man is upon his shoulders.
Lost- Why has He taken my place?
Bystander – God loves you so much that He gave His only Son as a ransom for your sin. It was the only way and is the only way to eternal happiness.
Lost – Believing in the Lord Jesus is the only way. Is that how I get the pearl?
Bystander – The Lord Jesus is the pearl.
Lost – I want peace with all my heart and mind. My soul needs salvation more than anyone or anything. Lord save me!
The whirlpool of his mind dispersed and left him on a fishing boat. Everything had changed. The sea was peaceful. As the boat made its way through the darkest time of the world, a net came down and caught Lost who was found. When the being picked up Found, a pearl was found in his mouth.
