Topic: Confident (07/05/07)
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 1 Cor. 10:12

I remember what an impossible task learning to ride a bike was. But with each and every inch gained, a feeling of achievement would come over me, urging me to conquer my inabilities, until I finally mastered the task. What was once difficult, and seemingly impossible to me, quickly became yesterday’s battle. I became so confident in my new bike riding ability that I began to take risks. First steering with one hand, then with no hands, standing on the seat, and the process went on until one of life’s lessons came along to adjust my thinking. With skinned up knees and bruises seen and unseen, what began as a climb up the hill to being confident, transformed into the crossing over the top in a downward trip of over-confidence. The whole process then ended in a heap at the bottom of the hill in a new acquired ability to recognize where confidence can easily be distorted into dangerous thinking. But we all know that one trip is rarely enough to learn this lesson in life. So here's to the many "Look what I can do's" in your life!

Confidence is a gift, but being over-confident can bring you to ruin!

Oh, so true! We start thinking we're doing it all by ourselves, and like the children we once were, we start defying gravity and then end up in a nasty spill, crying and asking God what went wrong!

Ah, you've taken me back to my younger days...I remember learning to ride a bike. I like that you used this analogy!

Short, to the point, and very good! I love this line: "and the process went on until one of life’s lessons came along to adjust my thinking." Isn't that the truth.

Over-confidence can cause a spill, and Pride goeth before a fall, but hey, at least you're riding without the training wheels! Good Job!
