My husband Peter had hatched this scheme over a year ago; making plans
& researching camping gear, so we would have the best. We were going to camp for a month in the wilds of Montana, and what an adventure we would have.
I had tried everything to talk him out of this, and he, in his excitement had talked me into it.
So far I was quite enthralled with this adventure; waking up to the sounds of a myriad of birds singing their praises to the God who created them, seeing the light filter down through the trees, and hearing the white water rapids nearby. Wonder filled my senses. I turned on my side to gaze at my husband, this wonderful man who knew me so well, down to knowing that I would love waking up like this!
Slowly Peter’s eyes opened and he gave me his lopsided sleepy grin as he saw me looking at him. “Hey Babe. You ready for the day to get started?” he said as he crawled out of the bag, pulling on his jeans in one smooth motion.
It was cold without him there beside me! I tried to do as he had done, but only succeeded in toppling over in the process, my legs only part way in my jeans. Getting back up was an effort and Peter was no help; he was laughing so hard. I finally righted myself and got dressed. During my escapade Peter had gotten a fire going and had the beginning of breakfast started. Pretty soon the smells of eggs and bacon sizzling in the pan, filled the air, along with the aroma of coffee.
“Ummm that smells good.” I said.
“Yeah? You better eat hearty, we’re gonna be using a lot of energy today!” he said, enthusiasm lacing his voice.
“When’s our guide supposed to be here?” White water rafting was on the agenda for the day.
“Pretty soon, I think. His wife is coming too.”
“Oh really? That’s great! It will be nice to have another woman along!” Maybe she will be as scared as I am and we can help ease each other’s fear.”
I was never more surprised as when Marc and Wendi arrived. He was tall and well-built and she… well, she was his exact opposite; short and petite and very timid. Terror radiated from every pore of her being, doing absolutely nothing to abate my fear. Now what was I going to do?
Pray.
OK Lord what do you have in mind here? I’m scared senseless and here I thought this gal could help me, because, well, she was coming with her husband who is a guide, for crying out loud!
His still small voice answered me. Her fear is not from just going white water rafting. She fears life. Talk to her about me. Lean on me for this wild ride you’re about to take and show her how having fun is part of the Christian life. I have brought you to this moment.
All of this, of course, went through my mind in a matter of seconds… “Hi! My name is Marsha! Won’t this be fun?” I said with an anticipation I didn’t feel.
Her hand trembled as she reached to shake mine. “I g-g-guess.”
“Would you like to pray with me?”
“P-pray? What good will that do?” she sounded incredulous… like, how could I even think such a thing would actually work!
“Yes, pray. I believe in God and what He can do for us right now with our fear.”
“You m-mean you’re scared too?” she said, her eyes glued to mine.
“Yes, Wendi, I am. But I know that God can help us. He’s helped me through lots of hard times. He wants us to see this as an adventure and enjoy His creation”
“O-OK you can pray…” her voice trailed off in unbelief.
Lord give me words. He did... I had never had so much fun in my life.
Wendi enjoyed herself too. She looked at me in awe, her face shining. “Please tell me more about God. I want life to be an adventure. I don’t want to be scared anymore…”
She accepted Christ that day and it was the beginning of a wonderful friendship for us.

One tiny nitpick--it's best to use the word "and" instead of the "&" symbol.
Good character development in this fun story.
One of the things I truly liked about this was that during the adventure the MC was able to guide others to Christ - now that is an incredible adventure for any life. Good job!
