There was music in the church I went to growing up and a couple of my church friends and I use to sing in a trio.
Of course there was my dad. He was into opera and classical music. Oh how he loved to listen to the Metropolitian Opera show that was on the radio ever Saturday afternoon. My mother didn't care at all for the opera, but liked gospel music. So, usually when my dad had the opera on, she would disappear up to see my grandmother. Me on the other hand really didn't mind at all. I remember a few times I didn't go to my grandmothers and would stay at home, in my room, and I would dress up pretending I was an opera star and would play I was singing in the opera along with the music that was playing downstairs. Now thinking back on these memories, it's funny because if they would have had video camara's back then and someone would have caught me doing my little show upstairs, I would have been so embarrassed.
My sister also took piano and played the flute. Of course she was more into it then I was and I lost interest in learning and playing when I became a teenager and other things took priority over my life.
Music was still a part of my life, but it came from this little radio I had in my room that my mother use to call just terrible and if I would knew my school work like I knew some of that garbage I was listening to, I would do alot better in school. Of course, I thought she didn't know what she was talking about. But looking back just about fifteen years ago when I had two teenage girls at home, I would listen to some of the music they listened to and I would have to laugh when I would say the same things to the girls. How somethings never change!
As I reflect back over the years of my youth, how I wished I would have kept taking lessons and playing. I hear someone playing the piano or violin, my heart just soars. So beautiful to the soul.
Then there is the music that gets in your heart & soul that never leaves, no matter how old you get. God gave us the ability to have a song in our hearts. No matter how bad your day or week goes, you can go through it with God conducting your heart to make your mind over come problems with a song of joy. Oh how wonderful that is to know. Exodus 15: 2 The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my victory. (Taken from Life Application Study Bible, New Living Translation)
