“Mr. Grump, its time to get up and do our Bible reading.”
He jumped off the bed and followed Jilly into the kitchen, waddling. Starbucks coffee, his favorite he stretched out his paws on her leg to let her know he wanted some too.
Jilly grabbed her Bible and covered up with a blanket as Mr. Grump took his place on her lap. Jilly poured a little of her coffee into a small bowl allowing it to cool.
“Mr. Grump, you are certainly getting to be quite a chunk. I think we need to get serious about walking again.”
The dog simply gave her a look she was never able to bear.
“Don’t look at me like that, when I get home this afternoon we are going to the park. I think I’ll stop by the pets store and pick up some diet dog food and treats.”
“Rrrowww rroww.”
“Oh I said the ‘t’ word didn’t I? I didn’t mean treats right now, but I’ll make sure you get something tasty after your walk this afternoon. How about I make you a deal; you humor me and I’ll diet with you. I’ll count points, carbs, calories or something.”
“Rrrowww rowwrr.”
“All right, no gripe.”
“Rroww rrrowwwr.”
“Mr. Grump! I said no gripe.”
“Grrrr.”
Mr. Grump plopped on his favorite part of the warn sofa as Jilly put her Bible up and began to get ready for work. His favorite time of the day was what time he could spend with her. He didn’t know what she read, but he really liked when she would say things like ‘hmmm, I’ve never seen that before’.
He remembered she said they would go to the park, also a favorite place. That’s where all his friends were and he liked to growl at each one. She also said diet food and treats, aauggh! Well taste is the downside, but the upside is making room for more treats with all that walking.
Jilly patted his head and rubbed his tummy before she left out the door. She loved the morning routine which helped her begin her day with the Lord and her best friend, Mr. Grump.

The title sparked my curiosity too--who could resist reading about someone named "Mr. Grump"? Also enjoyed the "doggie-human dialogue"! Great job!
