Oh how He hoped today would be different. Oh how He longed for someone to open the door today, but as He waited He knew today was going to be the same, no answer, no response to His knocking. One more time He raised His hand, hopes high, “Maybe they just didn’t hear me the first time.” He thought to himself. However, as the silence lingered He knew once again no one was home.
With head dropped He turned around and began walking away, as He had done so many days before. “Not again today. I just knew today would be different.”
Kicking the pebbles from under His feet He slowly put more distance between Him and the empty house. Not watching where He was going He bumped into a man, walking toward the house with his head down, a lost and lonely look in his eyes.
“My Lord, what are you doing here?” the man questioned on the verge of tears.
“My son, I come here everyday and knock for you, but you never let me in.”
“Oh Lord, had I only known. You see, every day I hang my sign on the door and I come looking for you. I just knew you are so important that you could never have the time to come to me. I hoped if I went to find you, I might have the chance to stand in your glorious presence. I searched all the places I knew in my life and people told me I would find you here or there, but I realized that I was looking in the wrong places.”
“My child,” the mighty Lord began slowly, “did you not know that it was for you I died and how truly important you are to me. I know the world claims you can find me any way or can look in any place and I will be there, but I left you instructions on for to come to me if you had only read my words.”
With that the young man dropped to his knees in front of the Lord. “Forgive me Lord, I have neglected your words and wasted many days of my life fishing through the false ideas of the world. Please allow me to come unto you and be your child.”
With that the Lord brought the young man to his feet and wrapped His arms lovingly around his shoulders, and together they walked toward home.
