A simple poem, from a simple man,
Who knows when this stress will fade my tan?
The day’s go by and then the years,
Kids grow up; life shapes their careers.
And all the new that you once had bought,
Turn to junk, and the value is naught.
The house; a shambled relic stands,
Soon to be destroyed, for the worth of the land.
Faded dreams like a box of tissues,
Disappear, from the necessity of health issues.
Go ahead and laugh! Go ahead and cry!
Life is tough, and then you die.
I’ve done my part in this game of youth,
I’m getting old, and that’s the truth.
Dad is tired, and so is my wife,
A vacation is due while we still have our life.
Not one with the kids, not one with good friends,
Not one where you come home, needing one again,
Just God and me and my wife you see,
Alone, to think of nothing, I due hope you agree.
Even if you don’t, I’ll send you a card!
To say, “Wishing you was here,” would really be hard,
Because as much as I love you, I really must confess,
We’re taking time off; we’re escaping the stress.
Take care, adios, chow, and goodbye!
Whether by boat, or by rail, by car, or if we fly,
Call me an old goat, a grump, or a stinker,
“We’re going fishing!” Hook, line, and sinker!
