When I was saved, I didn't know the journey that was ahead of me. God didn't supply me with a travel itenerary detailing times of departures, layovers or arrival times.
In my Bible study, I learned that we were created for the LORD-to woship and praise Him, to honor Him, and bring glory to Him alone. We were created to communicate with God and bring Him pleasure. I did not lunge out of the salvation gate knowing how to do that. It was and is a continual moment-by-moment, step-by-step, path-by-path journey. Writing to Him is one way that I communicate with Him along the way.
Remember the saying, "Always get it in writing?" It is said that to speak something is your word. More importantly, when one writes their words, it becomes a scripted seal of their words.
God journaled the journey of mankind from the beginning of creation using several people to pen the divinely inspired words of the Bible. The writers were from various cultures and backgrounds. Through them, God provided for us a "grapho" (Greek word for write or written) view of the past, present and future. The writers had two things in common: scripting on scrolls what God told them to write, and traveling their own journey through life.
Several years ago I began a journey with GOD. First it was songs to Him or about Him and then writing to Him in journals. What I write to Him becomes my scripted seal affixed to my prayers and praise to Him.
I am the happy custodian of a library of journals that I have written over the years. The journals overflow with my penned communication to God traveling on my journey toward Him and with Him. There is a special place near His heart that He reserves for me. He never gets tired of hearing my praise and prayers. Somehow, I know He delights with special pleasure when I write to Him my praises, prayers and thoughts because I strongly sense Him drawing near to me.
My personal Spiritual journey winds through luscious green valleys or ventures into the deep woods where it is dark and frightening. Sometimes, I walk along the sandy riverbanks or slip on the muddy banks. I know what it is to savor a cool drink of water in the heat of the day, and to bask in a cool gentle breeze. There are days that I am held close for warmth from the brutal cold, and there are days when I climb to the mountaintops over steep rocky slopes. Sometimes I am carried there instantly. I know that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are with me every breath of the way. My journals testify to it when I re-read them.
My Bibles, personal journals, commentaries and Christian books are housed in a special floor-to-ceiling brown bookcase. A lot of written history resides on the bookcase-including mine. Dust doesn't seem to gather on it. I treasure my Bible(s) and my journals to the LORD the most. I read them often. The Bible was written for me - my written Word for this life. My journals are written to Him. They record my journey on course or off-the-beaten path.
Oh, to be able to express my thoughts to God like David did when he penned, "Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. For I am thy servant." NIV
Journaling the journey with the Author of my salvation causes me to not worry about departures, layovers, harms way or arrivals. It is being content in whatever state I am in, because I know He is right there with me reading every word.
