Topic: Cooking or Baking (01/04/07)
One of the nicest gifts that my daughters got me for Christmas a couple of years ago was a toaster oven. I actually only needed a new toaster because mine was old and just not doing the job it was supposed to do anymore. My first thought when I got it was that I already had an oven that baked and broiled my food; however, it was shortly thereafter that I was an empty nester, and it was actually more efficient and economical to cook my smaller portions in.

Another benefit of my toaster oven that I enjoyed was watching my bread get toasted; I am sure that many people like myself have stared down into their toaster impatiently waiting for their bagels or English muffins to start browning, manually popping them up every now and then to see if the toast is brown enough for their liking. But now I can just stand there and watch the miracle of those little heating elements transforming my food right before my eyes.

There are still days that I am too impatient to wait for the little timer to go off, letting me know that my food is done and cooked to my perfection. On one day in particular as I was getting ready to just switch the timer off before it was ready to, a thought crossed my mind that made me stop.

I wondered how many times I have asked God to help me with a problem or prayed for something or someone and gave it up to Him to handle, and before He was done I would turn off His perfect timing and took it back only to find out that it was not yet done.

How many times have I spent impatiently watching and waiting for an answer when I could have been doing something more useful with my time, knowing that God would let me know loud and clear when He was done?

Just like I know that my food will not taste the way I like it if I impatiently take it out of my oven too soon, I realize that if I take back what I gave to God too soon, it will not be answered the way it should be either. I also know that just as I could patiently watch my meals cooking through that glass door of the toaster oven, I could patiently see my Lord working in my life as He answers my prayers.

may all our prayers be answered, and let God pour out more patience for us so we could wait when it is already done perfect for us

An excellent comparison-now you make me want to get myself a toaster oven and try to be more patient. Loved the part about the toast :)
