Finally I heard my named called and followed the nurse back to the prepping area to change and go through the normal health questions and to verify that I didn’t eat or drink after midnight. Then of course the part that I always dread the most, the IV, but this nurse was good and got that needle in on the first try. I knew that was going to be first on my thankful list that night in my prayers.
Now was just the waiting until my operating room and doctor was ready for me. At this point the family member or friend that was going to take you home would be able to come back and sit with you until they took you in. With no family of mine around a good friend of mine from church unselfishly volunteered to be there for me, but I knew she had to take her son to school and would be there while I was in surgery.
My calm finally got the best of me when they took back the first person into surgery, as the nurse guided this lady back, her daughter gave her a hug and kiss on the cheek, and she assured her mom that she would be waiting for her when she got out of surgery. It was then that it hit me how alone I suddenly felt and I tried so hard to fight back the tears.
Sure my daughter cared, but she didn’t live very close and she has a small son that she needed to be there for. I knew my friend was going to be there soon, even if it was after I was in surgery, at least I had the comfort that she was praying for me. But the pain of not having anyone there at that moment was too much and I finally broke down into silent sobbing asking God why at this moment did I have to be alone.
Then suddenly my curtain was drawn back and there smiling at me was the visitation pastor from church; he had heard from someone earlier that morning during the churches 6:00am prayer time about me and got there as fast as he could. He grabbed my hand and prayed with me until the nurse came to take me in, then he gave me a kiss on the cheek, just like that daughter gave her mom, and I thanked him for being there, and I went into surgery feeling Gods love and answer to my prayer that only He could have given to that pastor to give to me at that moment. What an anointing a pastor must have to be able to be at the right place and say the right thing at the right time.
Of course when God does something, it is always better than you can expect. After they moved me back to the release area to finish up recovering and for the family to stay with you until your ready to leave, I was sitting there ready to fall back to sleep and the curtain opened and standing there like two angels sent from heaven with the brightest smiles that just lifted my spirit was my best friend and the pastor.
