“Good morning, sunshine,” she whispered softly in his ear.
Felton shifted lazily. “Alright,” he smiled, “I’m up.”
Lynn placed the sleeping baby into her crib, and kissed her newest blessing on her sweet forehead. She then headed to the kitchen to get her day started.
She began to make fresh coffee, careful not to make too much noise and wake the children. She then proceeded to pack Felton’s lunch. He was so easy to please. Two ham sandwiches, chocolate chip cookies, and a bag of chips. That was all he wanted. She smiled when she thought of how blessed she was.
“Alright, babe, I’m off!” she heard Felton shout from the living room. So much for keeping quiet.
She rushed his lunch to the front door, and kissed him softly. The two stood there for a moment in a long embrace.
“I love you, dear. Be careful today,” Lynn said, as she looked into his chocolate brown eyes.
“I love you too, babe,” he replied.
Lynn said a quick prayer for his safety as he traveled the busy roads making his deliveries. She often felt guilty at this point of the morning because she felt like she wasn’t contributing to the family. Felton left every morning to provide for the family, and there she stayed with the babies.
Lynn sighed. She knew at this point in her children’s young lives this was where she needed to be.
She softly closed the door and locked it, then headed to her oldest son’s bedroom. He had kicked his blankets off again, so she replaced them. Her face beamed as she looked at her precious angel asleep on the bed. Lynn often envisioned what he would be when he grew up. She knew he would be something special, he was so smart, and so in tune with the Lord to be just turning six.
Lynn then tip-toed to her girls’ room. She almost cooed in adoration at her two and three year old girls who embraced in their twin bed. Those two could fight like cats and dogs all day, but one could not sleep without the other near.
As she closed the door behind her, Lynn began to feel quite tired. “It won’t hurt to take a little cat nap before I get the kids off to school,” she whispered to herself.
She set the alarm for an hour later, and lay her head on a soft, fuzzy pillow. After covering up with her favorite blanket, Lynn’s heavy eyes could stay open no longer.
She dreamed of being a missionary. Visiting far away lands, and sharing the gospel with men, women, and children who were hurting. People who had never even heard of Jesus Christ. What a contribution she would make then! How rewarding it would be to see lives saved by the power of His Word!
Lynn envisioned the jungles of Africa. That’s where she really wanted to go--to reach those who for so long served the wrong gods. She would build school houses and churches and even homes. Her and Felton together. That would be such an awesome ministry. She would then have real meaning and purpose.
The alarm woke her from her dream. Back to the real world. Back to not contributing to the world. Back to an exciting career in Motherhood.
It was then she heard little feet running down the hall.
“Mommy, Mommy!” She heard her three year old yell. Lynn could hear the excitement in her voice. What in the world could she be so excited about this early in the morning?
“Yes, Caprice, please calm down,” Lynn answered softly as she stooped down to look into her daughter’s eyes.
Caprice took Lynn’s hand and placed it on her chest. Her little heart was beating fast and hard. “You feel that?” She asked Lynn.
“Yes I do, darlin’.
“What is it?” Caprice asked, knowingly.
“It’s your heart.”
“Nooo,” Caprice laughed.
“Well what is it then?”
“It’s Jesus. He’s IN my heart!” The little girl danced and twirled around the room.
Tears came to Lynn’s eyes. This was her calling. This was her mission field--to teach these beautiful babies about Jesus. She was changing lives, through the love of Christ, in her own home.
