I used to love police,
I thought of them as friend,
Helpers in times of need,
Defenders to the end.
I understood their good,
I loved their mode of dress,
From childhood I knew,
Of their comfort in times of stress.
But, then I became a teen,
The 60’s, a whole new scene,
And the drugs I used to dig,
Brought fear, I call them, “Pig!”
I was always paranoid,
Their image was destroyed,
I hated the establishment,
And with violence, I was now hell-bent.
Then a “Jesus Freak,”
Asked me if I’d seek,
The One who the Father had sent,
Soon after, I had to repent.
And willingly I came,
To my knees in Jesus Name,
My “high” now from above,
Gave me back my love.
Fear and hate did cease,
I now esteem police,
A life that once lied in waste,
Recognizes God’s authority, emplaced.
I now respect police, and say,
When sirens whine, I’ll pray,
And as I sleep throughout the night,
God bless our black and white!
