Friday morning I awake ready to go to work, but knowing that throughout the day I will be in prayer until the last song is sung that night. It is hard to work when you have that burning in your soul, but I get through my day, I do my job well because I know that pleases my God.
I don’t have the time to eat by the time I get home, I need to get ready and be in continued communion with God. After I am dressed I spend the little time I have left in prayer:
Father,
I come humbly before you and request your presence with me
tonight as I sing with the choir. Please bless our voices so that we will sing as one and can minister to all who hear us. That we will touch those that are hurting or need a word of encouragement. Be with our director as he leads us, that the songs that he has chosen will glorify you.
Holy Spirit, turn up the fire that has been burning all week deep in my soul. Let the words that I sing not only touch the lost and hurting out in the congregation, but also the pain and hurting in my own heart. Do not let my own agonies in anyway interfere with what your will has for me tonight. And in all this, when all is done may God be glorified. Amen
As the clock counts down to zero, I look out from the choir loft and see how crowded it is out in the worship center and a few of us join hands and pray together to be able to be the light that shines Gods love over all that is present.
Finally we are singing, all kinds of praise and worship songs, we sway to the music, lift our hands to heaven, then as the tempo slows a bit towards the end, I see the people come forward, bowing at the altars. Tears come to my eyes as I see them coming one or two together, some families; others come to lay their hands on those kneeling.
As our service comes to an end after almost two hours of glorious, uplifting music, the worship center starts to empty out. I could see how happy and uplifted every one is. The ones that were at the altar stand, hugging one another; you can see that their burdens had been lifted.
Then, as I am walking off the stage, the fire fighter arrives, as he always does after my soul has been burning for a while, and puts out the fire that was there by reminding me that when I leave now, my burdens are coming with me, because I didn’t get the chance to leave them at the altar. However, that is the price that I am willing to pay to be able to reach just one more for Jesus.
