I’m usually not thirsty, since my water bottle doesn’t leave my side at work.
Jesus said in John 6:35, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” (KJV)
John 7:37&38, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” (KJV)
It would have been nice if he’d meant that literally, but Jesus was talking about spiritual hunger and thirst. Just like my physical body craves food and water, so does my spirit and my soul.
If that spiritual hunger is neglected I’ll find ways to entertain and amuse myself with other things, but I’m never satisfied. Only when I come to God am I fulfilled.
Jesus provides a river of living water and he wants us all to drink from it, continuously, so that we’ll no longer thirst after the pleasures of this world. Only then will we overflow with the river of living water.
