“Lift my hands and spin around,” she put her hand in the air and spun around. “Oh great, now she’s going to dance too,” Pedro thought in agony. The sidewalk ended and she continued to “sing” and dance. Pedro couldn’t take it anymore.
He ripped the headphone from her ear and yelled, “SHUT UP!” She looked at him, shocked it was obvious she had been oblivious to him. “Why?”
“Because, you can’t sing and you’re killing me,” Pedro pleaded.
“How else can I rejoice in this wonderful day that the lord has made?” she asked.
“On the inside. What’s so great about today?” having to walk home from school behind this buffoon was the icing on the cake of his horrible day.
“I’m alive, I’m walking. The grass is green. I have a loving home to go to. A bed to sleep in. I get three meals a day. I have clean water to drink. I have a school where I have friends and can learn. Just to name a few a things,” she stated profoundly.
“You’re happy about stupid things?” Pedro thought she was pathetic.
“You complain about things that are not worth complaining about. If you were to rejoice in the little things you’d find it easier to be happy in the big things and harder to complain,” she planted the headphones back in her ears, began to sing again, and turned the corner; and left Pedro to think about what she’d said.
