“Jesus whispers sweet and low.”
Do you remember that song?
I do. I have been singing it all day.
But, what is a melody?
Mr. Webster gives us this definition.
1. A sweet or agreeable succession of arrangement of sounds: TUNEFULNESS
2. A rhythmic succession of single tones organized as an aesthetic whole.
Those are awesome definitions aren’t they? Just saying the word MELODY sounds like a song.
Say it with me, M-E-L-O-D-Y.
The second definition stuck my mind and heart because it reminds me of the fact that we as the church of Jesus Christ are all individual pieces of a whole. And, when each of us are in tune there is a beautiful melody that rises up to God’s ears. Remember the day of Pentecost?
Psalms 98:5 puts it like this. “Sing praises to Yaweh with the harp, with the harp and the voice of MELODY. Or with a oneness, that’s my paraphrase.
I am often asked why I think God has delayed the return of Christ to gather His bride the church?
Well, I believe with all my heart that there is no MELODY within the body of Christ. There are a hundred different denominations that can’t or won’t get along. And, even within each denomination there is separation. Every one and every group cares only for their own agendas.
Hearts and minds are full of bitterness. It seems we all want to get even instead of getting along. I love that old song that goes, “From a distance the world looks blue and green, and the snowcap mountains white.” You have seen the pictures of our earth from space. Notice I said “our earth from space.” You can’t see individual people or groups of color, or religions, or sexual preferences. All you see is blue, green, and white. It looks like one big happy place from up there. I think this is an important point to realize. We as humans have a tendency to view everything or every event as a single happening. This causes us to have a narrow focus. We can’t see the entire picture. Have you ever seen a picture made up of pictures like on the TV commercials where you start out only seeing one picture and as the camera draws back, it takes in thousands of pictures to form a larger, single picture? That is what I am talking about. We are all part of a larger picture, and it takes each of us to make that picture. Have you ever worked on a puzzle and gotten to the end only to find a single piece missing? As beautiful as the picture on the box is, the puzzle picture is worthless without that last piece. If we could only realize how important we all are to each other and that without any one of us we are all incomplete. As far as science can tell we are it, at least in this part of the galaxy. We have no where else to go. We all have to live here, at least for the time being. One day we will colonize other planets, but now is all we have and here is all we have.
God designed us to depend on each other and on Him. If we mess either of those designs up, which we have, there is no MELODY.
