Topic: Vision (08/03/06)
Why do we believe in a God we have never seen? Is there really a way for us to know him? Of course there is my friend. He is real and, therefore, he is knowable. We have an opportunity to find Him every day. The difficult part is searching for Him in the present instead of trying to find him in the past. He will never be found there. Of course we can uncover trace evidence of His existence, but it is impossible to find a “fossil” for something that still lives.
What does it take to discover God? Having faith is a good thing to start with. Consider the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. When he spoke of his dream for the future he had never lived in the world he envisioned. He spoke by faith that there was something he had never seen that would exist in the world. We may not have seen God but we will if we have faith like Dr. King did. We must envision Him in this world and then have faith that it will be reality. It may be easier to try and ignore the impulses to seek Him out, but the more we try and deny Him, the harder we find it to live without Him.
It is ironic that the existence of something as enormous and important as God often can be confirmed personally in the smallest of things. For some it might be a kind word or a good deed. For others it might be in the laugh of a child or the smile of a stranger. When we experience these moments of affirmation, our world changes completely. We soon find ourselves searching for more of Him in the present and less in the past. What we think about God is transformed, and we desire His guidance in our lives instead of living life in control of ourselves. We begin to fear for those people around us who have decided they will spend their lives the without the blessings but have never considered an eternity with the consequences. It is hard to understand why we refuse to invest in our afterlife like we do our retirements. Could it ever be important enough to educate ourselves on what we can invest today to prosper ourselves in our “retired” lives? If we do not search out God outside the heavens than how can the paths there ever be found? If we believe God is knowable in each and every creation of His, than it is possible to discover Him in everything.
We can be as certain of God’s existence as Dr. King was of a world with equal treatment of blacks in America. What we envision can be reality with conviction. It is a dream worth dreaming. Man has free will the likes of which cannot be matched among God’s creations. We can choose to deny Him or we may choose to accept Him. What is so amazing is how every age in recorded history has some form of God in almost every civilization. Even the most remote locations inhabited have a deity they worship. Who taught the world from it’s’ inception about God if there was no God? Is it possible that a man created a story about a God that taught man about a God’s creation of man? These questions magnify God’s greatness. The world could never have created such a mystery and kept it a mystery for all time. Only God can so praise is to Him!

YOu made some really good points here, although I found the Martin Luther King analogy a bit distracting, because I think it falls down on a number of points. You would present your writing to better advantage with lots more white space - between each paragraph, which should be no more than 10 lines long. THank you for sharing your passion.
