A young man in his twenties worked at a restaurant and whined all the time. He would only do certain things. He would not clean a toilet, but he would gladly take out the trash. After a discussion with the man, I realized what the problem was. While growing up, he got to choose the chores for him. If he didn’t want to do something, he didn’t have to do it. He was let go of that chore. When he got married, he became worse and depended on his wife way to much. He became lazy. He never kept a job for very long.
If there’s a task that needs attention, do it and do well.
A young woman worked at the restaurant and neglected her work. She would see other people that were behind on their work and would help them. The problem with this is she would fall behind herself, and that would make it difficult for even those she thought she was helping. Her job was on the front line. She was the first person a customer sees and everything needed to be filled, from water glasses, to silverware. A line would form because she didn’t have things ready for the customer.
1 THESSALONIANS 4:11 (KJV)
And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
We know that a lazy man should not eat according to the Bible. It goes much further than that. We should not only work hard, but work hard and smart.
PROVERBS 22:7 (KJV)
The rich ruleth over the poor and the borrower is servant to the lender.
We work hard all our lives and God will probably put us to work in heaven. It doesn’t make sense for us to harm ourselves by foolish spending and ignoring the principles of investing that are so clearly laid out before us. INVESTING is just another form of work. It’s working smart. TITHING is a form of work. We reach out our hand and place the money in the basket. WORSHIP is a form of work.
PROVERBS 16:3 (KJV)
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Training a mind takes much work. The more we do what we want and not what God wants, we make work more difficult. Being double-minded is strenuous.
Let us not make our work more difficult than it is.
