Why did I keep walking this way? My feet never strayed from the well-worn trail spreading before me like a faded carpet. Well, why shouldn’t I? I knew where I was, after all, and where I was going. What’s the point of wandering aimlessly?
Just as I was convincing myself that diverting from the norm wasn’t necessary, God tugged at my spirit. Just a few steps off the path I noticed a broad old tree, heavily laden with lush green leaves. Its limbs seemed to surround the open space beneath it—what a safe little spot. I blinked upward to feel tiny raindrops beginning to patter to the ground. I stepped under the leaves and felt God again. His voice was clear:
“In his heart, a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 NIV)
As the rain poured down, I stayed dry soaking only in the new freedom I felt. When the clouds gave way to sunlight once again, I took a new way home, thanking God for His plan all the while.

"Just as I was convincing myself that diverting from the norm wasn’t necessary, God tugged at my spirit." Don't you love it when God does that?
I could almost feel the raindrops and the shelter of the tree leaves! Great reminder of Who is really in control of our path!
