He Knows Our Soul


Soul - refresh, meaning life, or vital breath

God breathed life into Man, bringing his soul to life. The soul is the very essence of our being, to everything we are, have been and yet hope to be. The soul is what shapes who we are as humans. It's not our bodies or our looks, it's not how smart we are or how we apply ourselves on a daily basis. Our soul is the communication line to God. Before our physical bodies were created, God created our soul. In Romans 8 verse 29 it says, "For those God foreknew". This alludes to the fact that God knew us even before he created us. Yet if we aren't yet created then what or whom does He know? My thoughts are He knows our Soul. Many people believe it is the heart that gives life and takes life. The Bible clearly makes it known that the heart and soul are separate from one another. Over and over in the Bible you will find it written, "with all your heart AND soul". Now, don't get me wrong, your human body cannot live without your heart. Your soul is eternal. It is not dependent on the heart to give it life.

Our souls are where we find our deepest desires. The desire that we have to have fellowship with God is part of our soul's natural state. Psalm 63 verse 1 says, "My soul thirsts for you". The question may arise, what about the people that don't know God? What about their souls? Our souls were created to have communion, fellowship, with God. People, of their own volition, turn away from God. I believe the souls of their bodies still long for the fellowship with God yet the soul does not control what any human mind chooses. This creates much confusion and turmoil in the non believer. It must be a constant struggle because the soul is programmed to follow God. It's like a tug of war in the spirit realm around a person's life. Even as I write these words I can feel what that must be like.

I believe the Holy Spirit directly communicates with the soul of a person. It's not that it's a verbal, oral conversation yet it happens all the same. It's from this communication that makes us yearn to grow in Christ. The soul is the spirit living within each and every one of us.
You can never kill your soul, at least not completely. You can try to bury it for awhile. You can try to walk away from it. All of these are just for a season. Sometimes God allows us to walk away but only for a short time. Then those desires start creeping forward again. The desires of your heart...the desires of the soul. No matter how much you try to ignore the inner being of your soul it always finds a way to resurface. God is good and faithful to those that love him. The Holy Spirit will gently nudge the soul of your being and lead you to the path of fellowshipping with God once again. Are you having trouble finding satisfaction in life? Do you have trouble finding joy in your every day life? If so, return to the maker of your soul.
