(Living In Faith Everywhere)
Your about to make the most important presentation of your career. The boss is depending on you to ‘wow’ the boys in the front office. Your palms are sweating. Your throat is about to close up. You can barely breathe. You check your notes for the fortieth time. Inside your brain the words ring out with the force of a tug boat blast, “YOUR NOT READY!!! AHHHHH!!” Plopping down in your leather chair you realize your defeated before a shot is even fired. God says “Choose Life!”
How about this . . . Your doctor walks into the examination room with your chart. He’s got this look on his face that a medical man shouldn’t have if the news is good. He begins to rattle off a list of ailments that you are sure he’s making up as he goes along. Then ends it by saying you may have terminal Cancer! You blink at him with unbelief. Your palms begin to sweat. Your heart begins to race. The words come fast and loud, “I’M NOT READY!! AHHHHH!!” God says, “Choose Life!”
Here’s one . . . you pull into the local supermarket and all the parking spaces are taken. You just had the boil on your pinky toe lanced and you’d rather not have to walk the distance. You step on the brake and close your eyes and ask, “Oh Lord please allow someone to move their vehicle so I don’t have to walk so far to get milk! Thank you, amen” You open your eyes and there to your left is a space six feet from the door! Yet when you come into church the Pastor asks for corporate prayer for a member that is sick. He says that the church should pray for the members complete healing. Your mind says, “I am not ready to pray for that!” God says, “Choose Life.”
What is this principle? Living In Faith Everywhere?
It involves living each day knowing that the Grace and Mercy of God rests in your life. That what He has started in you He will complete. Trusting in Him for the smallest to the greatest needs in your life. Not just in our churches, but on the job, at home and everywhere we sojourn.
These bodies, we inhabit, are like tissue paper in a strong wind. Our lives are so fragile that James calls it a vapor! Just this knowledge is humbling enough. How we choose to live has always been our own decision. God asks us to choose life. Still, we are born dying! It is not until we find the redemptive grace and forgiveness that only Jesus can provide that we truly come into the knowledge of eternal life.
Which is why we have to choose LIFE (Living In Faith Everywhere).
It is this aspect of the Christian walk that always perplexes those that are unsaved. It is more than breathing, or thinking rational thought. It is more than growing old. It is more than being able to enjoy the rigors of the environment. Or enduring the roughest of circumstances. The main component in our walk is faith. And that faith brings us eternal life. So that even when our bodies wither and die our spirits will live on.
Living in faith everywhere maintains our sanity. It is the reason that we have joy in the middle of sorrow. The reason that we can stand before the “guy’s from the front office” with confidence. Why the report from the doctor may trouble us yet not make us despair. Why we can lift up one another unselfishly in prayer and know that God hears us. This road for this life is narrow. Some of us may have to traverse the road sideways yet the point is that we are on the right road.
