Our gulf coast area was devastated when Hurricane Katrina came ashore. Most of our
church family had major damage, along with our church itself. Many were displaced for
for a time, but have moved back to the area.
We are now able to meet together for our church services. The presence of joy has
completely filled the sanctuary. We have come to realize that material things no longer
matter to us. Our joy has become greater with the nearness and presence of God in our
lives. This is a joy that rises above pain, or difficult circumstances, and a calm delight
that focuses on the character of God.
Many sad faces are now replaced with a calmly happy look. This fullness of joy is
connected to obeying His Word, and loving others. We are able to look beyond the
present life to our future salvation.
Some have asked if we will have this same attitude when another hurricane comes our
way. Our answer to them is recorded in Romans 8:38, 39 (KJV), “For I am persuaded,
that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things to come,
nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love
of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
