To me, Hope is a rainbow, the sign of God’s miracles.
Hope is the second named of the 3 theological virtues, which we receive at Baptism when we join the Body of Christ. Faith, Hope and Love are intimately connected.
Hope is believing against all odds. Hope is believing in God’s love for us, and ours for Him. It means overcoming despair and sin. It is trusting in God’s power to heal, in His resurrection which we celebrated so recently at Easter. It is believing in a better life for our children, believing we have done our best for them, and loving them unconditionally as God loves us.
It is the novice gardener believing the roses will bloom.
My husband and I were finally able to buy a house, much later than the usual first-time homebuyer. I see rainbows when I water our grass in the morning. And I see rainbows reflecting the evening light off my glass chandelier.
The rainbow has been a sign of God’s promise since the days of Noah and the Ark, a covenant between God and His people.
