I can imagine the day Jesus hung there on the cross; a righteous, sinless man who had given His entire life to save a world full of sinners. That day was no doubt filled with tons of emotions. There were feelings of anger, bitterness, sorrow, hatred, fear, depression, and anxiety, just to name a few. I couldn’t tell you exactly how Jesus Himself felt, but one thing I know for certain. While He hung there being bruised, mutilated, ripped, stabbed and left naked to wait for death to meet Him there He was feeling a passion for us that was beyond what we could ever comprehend. He had a goal. He had a mission, and while He was being tortured it was not his pain he was focusing on. It was you and I.
He wants us to feel passion for Him just as He feels for us, but I don’t believe that we can give of our hearts without understanding how much He gave of His first. It says in I John 4:19 that ‘We love Him because He first loved us’. Apart from Him we are incapable of ever loving. Jesus longs to love on us so much, and yet we spend a large amount of our time trying to fill up our hearts with things that won’t completely satisfy just to attempt to gain love. I mean, let’s be honest. What we really want is security; security to know that someone is always going to be there, that we will always be cared for and loved. We want someone who can know us the most and still love us the most. If we spent as much time seeking for Jesus’ love as we spend desperately seeking for other things to love us, we would finally find complete satisfaction. Just look at us! We are growing weak and weary from searching for security that takes us to dead ends over and over again. You might say, ‘I’ve tried seeking after Jesus and I still can’t seem to understand His love’. My friend, if you’ve stopped seeking, you’ve stopped too soon. For God promises us in Jeremiah 29:13, that if we seek Him we will find Him if we search for Him with all of our heart. Maybe you have never searched for Him with all of your heart. Perhaps it is because you don’t understand how much He seeks after you.
I can’t count how many times I’ve needed to know I was loved. And I can’t count how many times Jesus has sought to show me how much I am loved. He longs to take us in His arms and hold us through any and every situation we will ever face in this life. He longs to give us everything we will ever need whenever we need it. No matter who you are, no matter where you fit into this world, we all need what only Jesus Himself can give us. Any human can wipe away your tears, but only Jesus can kiss away your pain. He is the lover of your soul and the only one that will ever fill you with complete satisfaction and security. If we really believed this, wouldn’t we be running to Him with everything that’s within us? He’s waiting for you to let Him love you. His heart is filled with passion and it’s all for you!
