Topic: Help (02/20/06)
There is an interesting piece of Scripture in Judges 5:23 Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof, because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty. KJV

The inhabitants of Meroz, a small village about 12 miles from Samaria, did not come when the LORD called them to to assist in the battle against Sisera and his troops, and thus came under His curse.

The question is, does the LORD need our help? It depends on your world view. We in the west do not think like the Jews of the Bible.

Gregory Boyd in his book 'God at War', writes, "how many of us believers would consider the possibility of angelic interference as an explanation for why we sometimes do not see an answer to our particular prayers? Or how many of us might seriously consider the possibility of a menacing presence of an evil "prince" over our region as a factor in whether a child is molested, a baby is born healthy or ill, or a group of people accept or reject the gospel?

So, we come back to the question, does God need our help? If we consider that God is involved in a cosmic war, one that started before time, and continues, until as we read in the Book of Revelation, Satan and his angels are finally overthrown, then we must realize, that we on earth are in the middle of it. We are not holding the fort until He comes, as an old hymn exhorts us to do, but we are to fight alongside our God in the overthrowing of His enemy.

I believe that God knows all things, and thus knows that He will be the victor, but he calls us out daily to help Him win His war against evil. Is it possible He has lost a particular battle because we have not understood he needs our help?

An interesting Scripture that I've overlooked! Thanks for expounding on this theme for us. I do think that once you've posed your question, you don't need to repeat it in subsequent paragraphs. A very good outline, perhaps for a longer sermon that I'd be very interested in.

I agree with Jan, regarding repeating the question. With a little more work and adding more examples, this article would make a great addition to a Bible study. Keep writing for Jesus!
