This morning when we left home it was terribly foggy outside. Not the normal fog over the ground, but everything was white. It made driving, even in my usually bright-lighted SUV, a challenge. Despite the gloom of the morning, I felt that God was really using the fog to speak with me.

How often is our life like this foggy morning? Right now, it is exactly how I feel in my faith. This morning I couldn’t see the road more than a couple of feet in front of me. Just like we can hardly see the future and what is coming and we have to go on faith that God is guiding us along. I spend time shrouded in a fog of misery, self-pity, worry and anger over events in my life that are out of my control. And, even so, just like the occasional headlights in the fog that help light up stretches of the road, God gives us “glimpses” along our faith journey. Maybe it’s a friend reaching out when you need it most, a caring pastoral staff, encouraging e-mails and devotions in your inbox, a loving spouse, a foggy morning. But, they are there….if you can peer through the fog and find them.

Was my drive in the fog easy? Is our faith walk easy? No way! Do I still fail sometimes to be what God desires? You betcha! I have moments, just as I did on winding parts of the road yesterday, that I think I can’t go on. That I should just turn around. But luckily, I knew the roads and let God guide me along. Does this mean my faith cup is completely full and will stay that way forever? Probably not. I am human after all. And we still don’t always know what is ahead and sometimes we’re fearful of what we think, or don’t think, may be out there. Thankfully, though, my God can see through the fog with no trouble at all! He knows what is ahead and if I will let Him have control, he’ll deliver me to safety. Every single time.

I was very thankful to safely pull into the school parking lot, thanking God for His guiding hand and His “glimpse” that He lovingly used the fog to teach me about uncertainty and faith. When we come through a trial or just a down period in our faith and walk, we have the assurance that with God we’ll reach our destination with new found faith and courage. God never gives us more than we can handle. He's always there to help. Even when we think too much fog is covering the road ahead.

If the path ahead of us is very clear perhaps there are little chances that we may enjoy the journey. If the end of a story is known it does not make the reading interesting and so is life. Every one travels through the fog but very few realize. Good writing.
