I'll never forget the way my Grandma Elsie's beautiful long white hair billowed softly in the breeze when she brushed her hair outside in the morning. After expertly rolling it into a french twist for the rest of the day, nobody would have guessed how long it really was. Grandma loved Scandinavian blue, which was the same color featured on the pattern of the linoleum floor of the cherry farm house where she lived. Every time my mom and I visited, we devoted a whole day to scrubbing the floor so that the blue pattern could be seen again, for my grandma could not see well. Grandma baked bread. She made the bread from wheat that she ground in the basement, adding generous spoonfuls of honey to the dough right before baking. She also played the piano from memory. My mom always told me that it was important to memorize all the pieces I had learned so that I would still be able to play if my eyesight failed. I still haven't memorized them.

When my grandma died, I had better things to do than go to California for the funeral. I don’t remember what they were, but I’m sure they were important. A few years later, I attended a family reunion where I saw her, with her lovely hair and wise unseeing eyes, on a video that had been recorded before her death. I was flooded with remorse. I wished I could ask her advice for my life, or even have asked for her bread recipe.

My sister tells me that she was shocked to see my likeness in a picture of Grandma as she reviewed family photos the other day. I think she is right. Perhaps it is in the eyes.

Nice - leaves me wanting to read more about this woman. Good reminder to appreciate our grandparents - and just be with them when we can.

Breaking down the first paragraph into smaller paragraphs would make it an easier read - however, it is a nice memory of a beloved grandmother. I liked it, as it was short, sweet and to the point. Thanks for sharing
