Topic: Break (02/06/06)
“God in Heaven, will you please give me a break! I have been a good person. I go to church on Easter and Christmas. I usually put about $20.00 in the offering plate when I go. And there were these children that came to my door at home and asked me to sponsor them for a Walk-A-Thon for the disabled – I gave $.10 per mile. I bought a DVD from PBS to help support the local TV Station. What more could a person do to earn just a little bit of a break?

I am in debt up to my ears and don’t see a way out. What have I done to deserve this hole that I am in? My first wife is killing me with the child support. I am strapped with three car payments, a first and second mortgage, 10 credit card payments, a landscaping company to keep the yard looking nice, and a private school for both of my kids. I try to give my family everything they want. A boat, ATV’s, X Boxes, name brand clothing, every electronic device known to man, an in-ground pool, the nicest furniture money (credit) can buy, and absolutely the best vacations. Can’t you see that I need a break?”

Where is the balance? We want everything life can give us, but we don’t want to give back to Life. Nor do we want to take responsibility for the situations we put ourselves in. That hole we find ourselves in – did we fall into that hole or did we dig the hole ourselves and step into it? Take some responsibility and quit blaming God or anyone else for the situation you are in – Give yourself a break and with God’s help, pull yourself up out of that hole and stand on solid ground.
