For the next few days she was in and out of sleep, but by the end of the week she was feeling better under the tender care from John. Over the next few weeks she helped John cook and he built a temporary shelter for her. At night they would sit in front of the fire and John would tell stories about life in the woods. His engaging stories made her want to get to know him more. Slowly her broken arm started healing, but her memory didn’t return. One night after dinner John and Jennifer were enjoying the quiet night. All of a sudden she said, “Jennifer, that’s my name.” “That is a beautiful name. Do you remember anything else?” he asked. “No,” Jennifer said. “Let’s go for a stroll by the stream,” John suggested. She got up and they walked to the stream “It is such a beautiful night,” Jennifer said as she looked up at the moon shining through the trees. “It certainly is with you in it,” he said. She looked at his emerald green eyes and saw a tender look in them. He reached over and took her hands in his. A tingle went up her spine and she enjoyed the feel of his hand on hers. “Jennifer, I am so glad that I found you. I haven’t felt this way in a long time,” he said. “What way?” Jennifer asked. “Well when I see you sleeping you look just like and angel and your smile is as beautiful as the sunset. I never thought I would love again after my wife died,” John said. Jennifer looked at him and smiled. “John I don’t know what’s been in my past, but I don’t care. You took me in and you nursed me back to health and now I never want to leave you,” Jennifer said. “What about your family? Don’t you want to be back where you belong?” John asked. “It doesn’t really matter to me now. If I had a family they would have found me by now. I don’t think I really belonged anywhere” she said. “You belong here with me,” John said as he took her in his arms. “I love you,” he said as he lifted her face to his and tenderly kissed her. “I love you too,” she said as she returned his kiss. He held her for a while and she felt safe in his strong arms.
