Is it that your eyes see,
- and not mine?
You enlighten my night with the faintest of hue;
Even the smallest of wishes are wished upon you.
O, little star, why do you stay?
Is that when you sleep,
- while the sun is away?
A friend to the moon in the sky that you share;
Birds flying south look toward you to get there.
O, little star, what do you see?
Do you see heaven up high,
- or just me?
Does the wind whisper secrets of angels in the air;
Or does it hold them up high for me to reach them up there?
O, little star, where do you go?
Do you hide from the rooster,
- as he begins to crow?
You silently stare until your sparkle is gone;
As I watch you fade slowly when the day greets you at dawn.
O, little star, will I see you tomorrow?
When I go to sleep tonight,
- a dream may I borrow?
