Previous Challenge Entry (Level 1 – Beginner)
Topic: TV (10/04/18)
I need a story. Something to sell to the networks. Something that will appeal to the masses, but not too common. A story about a child of a farmer or stockman. I’ll place them in an area of war and struggle. A time with no mobile phones, so that information can be delayed or at least easier to hide. Also, no GPS tracking.



It will need to be a man so that aggression is expected and risky choices are not unexpected. I will make sure that the viewers see that he has courage and strength, but stuck in a simple life. He will need to do something to bring himself out of the tall grass, something that people thought was impossible, or at least certain death, but only to those who aren’t as brave as our protagonist. This will allow him to be seen by someone of power who will like his attitude.



But why would those in power care about common people, I know, he can be a magician, or a musician, this way he can talk to the powerful which will enable him to be seen doing this big courageous task. He will be sent to command a troop of soldiers, but is still asked to play music for the rulers. Something that is a bit of a step back from the power he is starting to gain.



He goes to battle and keeps coming back victorious, again and again, moving up the chains of command until he is given control of the entire army. But now what… The existing ruler needs to doubt our hero, so the ruler starts doing what he wants instead of what he should do, so will need to be some sort of king. Yea, everyone loves royalty. The king can be told by a confidant that he is to lose his power and may not have long to rule.

Now the king tried to kill our hero by sending him into unwinnable battles, but he just keeps winning. The people see him as being more powerful than the king, who starts to see conspiracies everywhere, eventually trying to jail and just kill our hero.



Awesome, now our hero will need to run, with some chase scenes. The dust, caves and horses galloping across the horizon. Perhaps he finds himself back where he grew up, in the long grass. But he can’t run forever, I’ll have him be a commander for neighboring kingdoms, but that just makes him a gun for hire. I will have to kill the king and his son, so there’s no heir to the throne. I will have the king die in battle trying to do what our Hero does so well and our Hero can come back to the people who will celebrated his strength and command.



He can’t live happily ever after, that’s boring. Now, while he is a great commander he is an average person who keeps making the wrong choices. He gets married several times and sees a woman he just desires so he will coerce her into his arms. Now she is pregnant and married to a soldier. Everyone loves soldiers, so will feel upset, and emotions means they will keep watching. OK, what now? I need to get rid of the woman. No, she’s pregnant. I’ll kill the soldier, yes in the midst of battle the King orders his men to back off when the husband is in danger. That’s a cliff-hanger.



OK, he marries the woman and has lots of kids from this and his previous marriages. They all grow up with power and luxury, watching a father make personal choices that are not the best. One of his children will fight against his father but why? Oh, his sister is raped and the king doesn’t do anything about it…. and it was his half-brother…No, incest doesn’t sell very well. But fueled with anger he rebels against the king. The most handsome son, with an attitude to match and after living a life watching his father believes that power is his and the choices he makes for himself are also for the people, even when they are not.



But his son, will need to die. Killed in battle. A foolish trap caused by his own arrogance. Grief comes into our king’s life but he is told to push that aside and rule his people. Now our king needs a name that’s simple and something people can relate to. I’ll call him David

Very well done!! It took me a bit to realize that this was already a good story.

Very clever way to make TV the topic.It could have used some camera shot references to differentiate between this being a TV idea and not a book or radio program.
