Topic: COFFEE BREAK / TEA BREAK (03/01/18)
“I’ll make the coffee”, my husband said. This usually meant he had something serious to discuss. Or, perhaps he was joking as this is a line from an old TV commercial. It’s so old that I don’t remember the brand of coffee or anything else about it. I approached him cautiously as I wasn’t sure what direction the conversation would take.



It had been a long day at work and I was looking forward to a great cup of coffee. Still wondering what he wanted to discuss, my mind went to things shared, learned, or planned over coffee or tea.



At the airport in Rome, Italy, I shared my first cappuccino with fellow dancers as we discussed our upcoming itinerary. I was a wide-eyed teenager touring with a world-renowned professional ballet company.



Coffee breaks at rehearsals in Athens, Greece, involved sensuous Turkish coffee. It was thick, dark and sweet and it provided the needed kick to help us through the rest of the rehearsal.



Ah, England! I learned to drink tea there as it was constantly available to us as we learned dances and practiced them. Breaks with tea were spent discussing and planning what to do next.



Timisoara, Romania provided a different experience with a different focus. Many years had passed since my ballet company days and my husband and I were ministering in churches, hospitals, and orphanages there. He spoke or sung and I taught the kids to dance for Jesus. We had a coffee break everywhere we went to set the pace for the message or dance class.



Now, I spend hours over coffee with my best friend as we discuss life. We both treasure this time together.



The best coffee break of all is the one with Jesus every morning, first thing. I study His word and tell Him all that is on my heart. He listens and instructs me. I receive my marching orders for that day. It is a standing reservation and it is the highlight of my day.



“So, husband, what did you want to talk about?” Do you know what he said? “Oh, nothing just wanted to see you!”
