You’ve been invited to a day, eating jam and tea.
A gathering for high society.
Sweet pastries with fruit filled jams,
To go with a cup of English tea, and musical band.
Dress for success, to meet the press;
For the biggest social event of the year, was the request.
The invitation read...a King anticipates the pick of his bride;
Like a father of a newborn, filled with pride.
Debutantes, and princesses...all will be there.
A blissful wonderment fills the air!
Described with decorative flowers, and greenery adorning the place;
With ribbons, and pearls, surrounded in lace.
An invitation delivered to a long dark street,
Written with a time for a meet, and greet.
For it came to a vagrant girl with her clothes all tattered, and torn.
Anything she wears to this event will be scathed, and scorned.
As she read the menu, that included jams of blackberry and cherry;
The more she read, the more she became merry!
These are treats she thought, only meant for the best.
She could not believe, she was asked to be their special guest.
Why me? She thought… Who would want me?
To grace the grounds of a grand gala to be...
With her heart filled with joy, she skips down the road,
As she came to a mirror, she looks down at her clothes.
Stopping for a moment, breathing a sigh of grief and fear,
For she realizes then, as the hours drew near…
She will not be able to RSVP to attend;
For she had no gown, or one she could apprehend.
That would be appropriate to meet an esteemed high King,
As a possible bride, to wear his ring.
With her head bowed low, as she drags her feet,
She bumps into a stranger, that she meets on the street.
She shares her story, through sorrowful tears;
Then the man wipes her face, and calms all her fears.
Leading her with his kind, gentle hand, around town;
They came upon a shop filled with beautiful gowns.
As she tries on dresses, one after another;
Her time is spent filled with joy, and laughter!
As she heads for a shop to receive beauty, and glam,
She can begin to taste all those delicious, mouthwatering jams.
Excited with anticipation to attend this grand event,
She thanks the kind stranger, and off he went.
To only realize as she turns the corner,
A limo awaits in her honor.
To escort her now, to a gala of jam and tea,
I then pause to realize, that this girl was me.
As I was enjoying the event, filled with fun and games;
Again I saw this stranger, whom I never got his name.
Why I wonder, would he be here?
But it soon became very clear…
As he introduced himself, as the King who came for his bride.
He told his story, as I stood by his side.
That it was he who wanted me as his special guest,
And made sure my name was on the invitation list.
He'd seen my pains, and sorrow, I had endured in my life.
And wanted to give me a world filled with love, excluding the strife.
I was taken back, for I did not understand,
Why this glorious King, wanted to be my man.
He showed me his scars, and a hole in his side;
Treatments necessarily he endured, for me to be his bride.
My eyes full with tears, this time representing joy;
Like a child on Christmas morn, receiving their favorite toy!
This vagrant girl who lived a life mostly alone,
Now has a King who sits on a throne.
Who wants to shower me with gifts, beyond what I can comprehend;
That would go on forever, and have no end.
RIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!
Oh drat! The clock alarm awakens me, it was only but a dream...
I sat up in my bed, wanting to scream!!!
Come back my King! I don’t want to be alone!
If only you can be reached by a telephone.
Then a peace begins to fill my space.
A still small voice, whispers love, and grace.
Fear not my sweet bride… For I am not gone.
For in a very short while, I will be along.
To take you in my arms, filled with loving care.
And place you in a world, where we both will share.
I pause...
In the meantime… I will enjoy my jam and tea;
As I dream of a palace, for my King and me...

Lovely,
Blessings~
I though it was well thought out. You might want to even out some of the longer lines for a smoother poetic read.
Nice going.
