Topic: GREEN (01/19/17)
Ten, twenty, fifty, and hundred dollar bills;

I can see them all in her hand.

Her hand bejeweled with the most brilliant emerald ring I have ever seen.

I watch as she spreads out the many denominations and fans her face

before gently placing them in her wallet.



Maids, nannies, and a personal chef;

servants at her beckon call.

She never pushes a broom

nor does she tend to the daily needs of her baby.

She eats like a queen morning, noon, and night.



Designer clothes, luxury cars, and a beach-front lake house.

Never the same outfit; her closet is enormous.

The four-stall garage houses her Bentley, Maserati, Jaguar, and Porsche.

She can pick where she wants to spend her weekends, as well as what vehicle will be her transport.



I pine for this lifestyle as I binge-watch old episodes of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Oh, but it is late, and I must go to bed. The time before sleep overtakes me I thank God for my one-bedroom apartment. I cherish my mother’s thin gold wedding band that was given to me upon her death. I am thankful for being able to afford clothing from the Thrift Shop, and for living so close to a bus line so I can get to and from work every day. I am thankful I know how to cook and eat sensibly in my home which is not as unkempt as it was when my daughter was young, but I keep it clean. I am thankful for my lifestyle even if it is poor, yet quite humble.

This is a nice piece. Your message is clear, yet it doesn't feel preachy at all. My only red ink is the saying is beck and call (http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/beckon-call-or-beck-and-call). You did a nice job of painting a picture and left me with a smile on my face.

This is a good example of a story in verse form. - a kind of poetry.

Using the phrase "I pine for", I could not determine whether the MC was content with her surroundings or still had a desire to have what the other had.
