Topic: AS EASY AS PIE (12/01/16)
God is the most complex being
yet He wants me to live a simple life
He wants my relationship
free from trappings and hindrances

He is open to my hungry heart
but doesn't want life so structured
so regimented:
a self-centred worship of rules

He wants my life to be spontaneous
He reserves the right to change
break in and start new directions
He wants to keep me on my toes

He doesn't want a Laodicean church
so organised and regulated
He understands me perfectly
lest I major in things that don't count

Shall I get upset when interrupted
in schedule, quiet time or routine
God may work behind the scenes
calling me to Himself, not scaffolding

I must be a Nathanael in my conduct
without twists or turns
open hearted and direct
with Him in my communion

Help me to be the blessed
of the Beatitudes
whose qualities simple
and utterly frank

I like thoughts and ideas expressed in poetic form. It makes for nice reading.

One thing I would consider about the Laodicean Church though, because Jesus calls them lukewarm, is that they may have failed in living according to the teachings (rules, and commandments) given by Jesus in the sermon on the mount (Matt. 5 - 7) When we don't follow Jesus' rules and commandments, we also could be called lukewarm and that will not be good for us on the day of judgement.

One of the hallmarks of good free verse poetry is more poetic language. I'd like to see more metaphors and similes here, or symbolism, or simply words with more imagery. Poetry should read differently than prose, apart from just being differently arranged.
