“I told you, honey,” Mum said. “There is ten more minutes. Dad just has to pack the tent.”
Crystal and her family were going on holiday on an island Crystal’s uncle had found. It was quiet. Her Uncle had found out who the owners of the island were and asked for a bit of the island and got half of the island! Her uncle was good at a lot of things. He could paint, he could water-ski, he could bribe... Crystal thought he could do almost anything!
“Oh, and Crystal, Jane is coming too.”
Jane was Crystal’s friend. She was fourteen, a year older than Crystal. “Cool, Mum!”
“Crystal!” Crystal looked around and saw Jane.
“You’ve finally arrived!” Crystal said.
“Alright, girls, hop in the car,” Mum said.
“Now, it’s going to be a 20-minute drive you two, and stay settled,” said Dad.
Finally they arrived at the dock. “It’s boat time,” Crystal yelled. Crystal and Jane scrambled down to the boat. It was green and it was called “The Sea Maiden”. They leapt on. “Come on, Jane!” Crystal called. “Let’s go down to the cabin and look out the portholes for looking in the water.”
Jane followed her friend. “Why, look at everything! she said. “It’s beautiful!”
“Hey, Jane, I found some books! Come over here!”
Jane went over. “That is a lot of books,” Jane said. “But they’re not maps and navigation and stuff.”
“Let’s stay down here while we go to the island.” said Crystal.
“Alright,” said Jane. Crystal told her dad so when the engine started they were all comfy. “We are at the island!” Dad finally announced.
“Cool!” Crystal said. “Come on, Jane, let’s go!” They hopped out of The Sea Maiden and splashed to shore.
On that first day they kayaked, waterskied and climbed in the trees. They were sad when Mum called them in for dinner. For dinner they had potato salad. For dessert they had jelly with sprinkles.
“Yum,” said Jane as she finished off her jelly. “That was delicious!” Then they went to bed.
“Good night girls!” Mum said. “See you in the morning!”
The next morning when Crystal woke up she found that Jane was already up. She got up. Mum was cooking pancakes.
“Happy birthday!” they shouted.
Crystal had forgotten her own birthday!
“Time for presents!” Dad said.
After breakfast Crystal got a nice green box decorated with pretty yellow bows. Her Mum’s present was a bookmark that matched her box and a twenty-dollar note. Jane’s present was a Bible. A girly Bible. A pretty Bible. Crystal thanked everybody.
I am going to take you on an expedition,” Dad said. They went off into the forest with some supplies and Crystal took her Bible.
“Hey!” Crystal said after a few minutes in the forest. “Look at that soft moss on the ground over there! We can go and rest!” They all started towards it. But, as soon as they stepped on it.... “Aaahhhh!” they yelled and fell down a hole.
“Where are we?” Jane asked. “Apparently we are in some type of hole. We have fallen a long way down so if we tried yelling no-one would hear us,” said Dad.
“What should we do?” asked Mum.
“I don’t know,” answered Dad.
Mum turned to Crystal and Jane who were whispering. “Why are you whispering?”she asked.
“We think we should pray,” they said.
“But why?” Dad asked.
“Look,” Crystal said. “I opened my Bible and when I looked down I saw the words ‘Pray to the Lord your God.’ So let’s pray.”
“Alright” said Mum.
Crystal: “Dear Father in heaven, we are trapped in this hole.”
Jane: “Please help us to get out.”
Both: “Amen.”
Suddenly, they heard voices coming from the wall. “I wonder where this leads to.” “Look, the tunnel ends over there.” “Good thing we brought the pick!” Knock, Knock, Knock. CRASH!!! The wall fell down!
“Wow!” a small girl says.
“It’s a way out!” Crystal, Jane and the adults say.
“Thankyou for helping us,” Dad said to the family. “We were trapped here. We’ll be going now. Bye!” So they all went out of the tunnel and went back to the tent.
“I think we should thank God,” Mum said quietly.
“Yes,” the others agreed.
“Dear God,
Thank you for helping us
Amen.”

I see a lot of the colour green in this piece - a favourite colour perhaps?
Well done!
