The Hope that lifts the heart

Every morning, Brandon sits in God's presence, gaining his strength for the day. Time and again, it is during those moments when he stirs his coffee that God's revelations absorb his thoughts.

Staring, watching his spoon circling in his cup, he remembers the reason for becoming a doctor...to be God's healing hand in an ailing world, but the limitations that sometimes cross his path pierce his heart as he witnesses the brokenness flowing from his patients' eyes as they approach their endings...

"Why God? Why can't you step in, You have done it so many times before? I know You can."

Silence.

As Brandon reflected on the past few weeks, his heart became heavy as discouragement leaked through every little crack in his soul…

Jamie, the girl that captured his soul from the first moment he saw her¯vibrant and full of life, and yet she has been face to face with death for a while, but by grace she has so far escaped it by a margin. Cancer¯A word that has become a thorn in Brandon's flesh for the sake of every life that crossed his path that has been affected by it.

It did not matter how much doom and gloom the news brought, no breakthrough came. But every morning as Brandon greets her, she smiles, “This is the day the Lord has made, it is good and I am doing great!”. A reply Brandon never understands, yet the life in her words gives him hope even if the facts have never been darker.

“God, You have healed many before, please do it again.”

Brandon bowed his head, pondering the day ahead and wondering whether hope will rise with dawn.

Unexpected tears appeared and the moist on his face reminded him of the tears Jesus shed for all of us as He was approaching His death on the cross. A known stirring arose in his heart.

"Lord, you know the ending, and I know it is always good. Even though I may not always understand Your ways, please help me out here. We have tried every option and Jamie responds to nothing but she deserves to live, Lord. Please give her life in abundance and use me Lord wherever possible."

The previous silence became a definite knowing in his heart as Brandon could see God’s angels stirring the waters in heaven, preparing for the healing to flow.

"Brandon, I have used you and I will still use you in many ways! This time, my son, you have done your part, it is no longer up to you but it is now between Me and Jamie. Get up and go to work and watch as I bring healing where it is destined."

This article touched my heart. I know many such compassionate doctors and you eloquently painted a picture of Brandon. I love the resolution of this story.

A sweet, touching story - with a satisfying ending. We don't always know what God is doing, but after we've done our part it is truly in HIS hands.

Accepting God's will in difficult places may be hard to do. Will I do it willingly or will I fight it. I don't know. Time will tell.

Very thoughtful piece.The acceptance of "thy will be done" is clearly felt at the end. This makes it a better teaching piece than a piece where everyone lives happily ever after.
