"What is this world coming to?"
People have asked this question for ages, but never with such fear and confusion as most recently in the aftermath of Wall Street's fall, the collapse of the housing market with way too many foreclosures and bankruptcies, the rise and fall of the credit market, and the war in Iraq and with Issis abroad.
Environmental disasters, like great tsunamis of the Indian Ocean lethally striking entire villages, the recent earthquake that killed thousands in Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka and other deadly earthquakes that have occurred in Nepal / Kathmandu, have also taken its toll in the thousands. Tornadoes across our great plains, out of control wildfires in the North West, and flooding in Texas have become much too real. Sickness and disease, especially aids, cancer, and MERSA, that seemed relatively uncommon in previous generations seem to affect all of us or those we know.
These events, along with the collapse of the American and global economy that began the "Great Recession", should have been a wake up call for the people to repent, however; they have instead become more and more brainwashed with illicit propaganda promoted by those who want to shove their immoral agenda down our throats until it is swallowed easily without choking on the offensive bile. We, as a whole, are surely turning against God's ways, but He is still in control!
Values have changed, even among Christians, who won't stand up for God's righteousness, in fear of being labeled intolerant, bigots, phobic, and "haters". They have exchanged spirituality for sensuality, holiness for profanity, and righteousness for self-interest, with increased tolerance, if not outright support, for homosexuality and gay marriage, sex gender change, rampant immorality, debt with its" impending economic failure , and furthering the idolatrous lifestyle.
God warns us time and time again that we will reap what we sow. He gives us unlimited opportunities to repent, turn away from our sins and back to Him.
Isaiah 9:10 (NIV) "Behold, what I have built I will break down,
and what I have planted I will pluck up."
The apostle Paul warns that "…in the last days, people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God---having a form of godliness but denying its power." (2Timothy 3:1-4 NIV)
These last days, before the second coming of Christ, are a time of grace that God has given us to literally clean up our acts of degeneration and disintegration of ourselves, our environment, and our culture.
The Book of Revelation (meaning "to reveal things about the future") has a purpose to give encouragement and to remind we Christians that God IS in control and that evil will, in time, be ended. The message of Revelation, to be ready for the Lord's coming-the Rapture, serves as both a warning as well as an encouragement. We are warned that He is coming soon with our reward. We are invited into a divine life with God, who has the whole world in His hands. He is Still in control!
